KUALA LUMPUR (May 30): Once the Klang Valley's favourite — and only — fast food joint, A&W seems to have skated by on nostalgia in recent years. Chief executive officer (CEO) George Ang is determined to change that by giving the home of The Great Root Bear mascot the refurbishment it deserves from bringing the brand into the digital era via store experiences and facilities to upgrading interiors with a cool retro diner aesthetic.

The franchise is now rapidly expanding with plans for more nationwide roll-outs in the coming years. A finance and economics graduate, serial entrepreneur Ang discusses strategy and management philosophies, as well as his early foray into the F&B landscape and the two key realisations upon which his entire career is built.

Other interesting personalities featured in this issue are The Els Club Desaru Coast general manager Steven Allan Thielke and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's outgoing president and CEO Dr Claus Weidner. In the latter's exit interview, he candidly talks about everything from lockdowns to legacy, capturing the spirit of these unusual times and the values that hold steadfast regardless.

Also within these pages are the healthy snacks and drinks conveniently available at myFITBOX vending machines, and contemporary artist Kenny Scharf's role as a muse for the 2021 Dior Homme collection designed by creative director Kim Jones. Finally, check out our pick of retro pieces that tie the past to the present, mixing throwback flair with today's fashion must-haves.
