KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): Minister in charge of vaccination rollout Khairy Jamaluddin has expressed appreciation to companies which are sponsoring food and drinks for staff at vaccination centres (PPVs) that have been set up throughout the country.

He said this yesterday, while visiting the PPV at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which was opened on June 7, together with representatives of ECM Libra Foundation, The Edge Covid-19 Fund and GPL Group.

The three entities are sponsoring 500 meals and a similar amount of mineral water a day for three months.

“I hope other corporates will be generous to do the same,” said Khairy.

The KLCC PPV is presently administering 5,000 doses of vaccines a day and this will increase in the weeks ahead, as the programme is cranked up with the arrival of more vaccines.

The rollout has picked up pace in recent weeks with over 130,000 to 154,000 doses administered daily. By mid-July, this is expected to rise to around 250,000 doses a day and over 300,000 in August.

Malaysia targets to vaccinate 80% or 25 million of its population by early 2022. As at June 12, it has administered 4.36 million doses.

Just under 10% of the people have received at least one dose, while 4% have received two doses. The aim is to vaccinate 50% with two doses by end September, with the arrival of over 35 million doses of vaccines between now and September.
