KUALA LUMPUR (March 8): AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) will start four times weekly flights to Lanzhou, China from May 1.

In a statement today, AAX Malaysia chief executive officer (CEO) Benyamin Ismail said last year, the airline had added a new route to Tianjin.

"The addition of Lanzhou to our network is proof of our commitment to expanding our presence in this key market, as we continue to serve the needs of Malaysian and Chinese travellers alike,” he added.

AirAsia China and Indochina CEO Tassapon Bijleveld said the new route will provide an additional 156,000 seats per year to China. 

To celebrate the new route, AirAsia is offering fares from RM149 for standard seats and RM789 for its premium flatbed for booking from now until March 24 and for travel from May 1 to Oct 26.

AAX shares closed up 0.5 sen or 2% at 25.5 sen today, with 2.02 million shares done, bringing a market capitalisation of RM1.06 billion.
