KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 10): Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd was announced as a winner at the Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards 2022 for using Red Hat’s open source to optimise its critical information technology (IT) processes.

In a recent statement, enterprise open source software solution provider Red Hat said Bank Islam, which won in the automation category, offers end-to-end financial solutions to fulfil the diverse needs of customers and provides platforms for stakeholders, including its people, investors and communities, to prosper.

It said Bank Islam brings a unique perspective to the financial landscape and is committed to nurturing responsible growth and progress.

Marjet Andriesse, Red Hat's senior vice-president and general manager for Asia-Pacific, Japan and China, said Bank Islam has showcased exceptional agility and innovation when it comes to using technologies like hybrid cloud and automation to improve overall customer experience, forming part of the broader effort to contribute to Malaysia’s MyDigital initiative.

“I hope that they will serve as an inspiration for more organisations in Asia-Pacific to unlock the potential of open source,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bank Islam chief technology officer Zainal Azlan Zainudin said it is important that the bank’s digital services and solutions remain resilient and readily available to customers.

“This requires us to make sure we could efficiently carry out our key IT maintenance activities with minimal interruptions to our digital banking platform’s users.

“With Red Hat’s open source solutions, we are able to not only effectively automate our IT service delivery but also strengthen the resilience of our infrastructure.

“This has also allowed us to focus on improving user experience and to continually innovate our business,” he said.
