KUALA LUMPUR(Dec 31): Shares of Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) rose as much as 3.5 sen or 8.7 %  to 43 sen  today, after it reported a seven fold increase in net profit for its second quarter ended Oct 31, 2014(2QFY15) to RM153.1 million.

BCorp had attributed the increase in net profit to investment related items of RM199.1 million, which mainly comprised the recognition of gain arising from remeasurement of its 50% interest in Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Co Sdn Bhd previously held by the group.

The group also reported a revenue increase of 46.2% to RM2.6billion for 2QFY15, from RM1.8billion in 2QFY14.

Tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan holds a 23.88% direct stake in BCorp and a 14.46% stake through his interest in Hotel Resort Enterprise Sdn Bhd, and another 9.77% held through various vehicles.

At 11.38 a.m, BCorp was traded at 42sen, 6.3% or 2.5 sen higher than its opening price.
