We are just days away from going to the polls. Although official campaigning started only on nomination day (April 28), GE14 has been a year in waiting as few had expected Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to stretch his term of office to just over a month before parliament automatically dissolves.

The last few years have not been easy for the prime minister, who has had to confront a host of problems, from bread-and-butter issues like the Goods and Services Tax and rising cost of living to financial scandals at 1Malaysia Development Bhd and FELDA/Felda Global Ventures Bhd. Thousands of words have been written and published, including by The Edge, so there is no need for us to repeat them.

Suffice to say that both sides of the stories have been articulated by Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan. The time has now come for the people to give their verdict.

So, we urge all eligible Malaysians to cast their votes on May 9. As a line from the Election Commission’s song says, Jangan Lupa Kewajipan Kepada Negara (Don’t forget your obligation to the country).
