KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6): The government’s debt will not threaten the country’s economic performance,  said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at Parliament today.

"The government’s debt is still at around 53% which means that if we compare to other countries, we are much lower.

"I don't see this (debt) threatening our economic situation," Najib who is also the Finance Minister was replying to a question posed by MP Kepong Dr Tan Seng Giaw (DAP) during Parliament as to how the government was looking to resolve the government's debt that was still high.

Najib also mentioned that even the Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte  "told me I envy your economic performance".

The Dutch counterpart was here yesterday on a one day official visit to Malaysia to discuss latest developments regarding the downing of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH17.
