KUALA LUMPUR (April 17): Hock Seng Lee Bhd (HSL) has secured via open tender a RM298.98 million contract to build the 1.9km Batang Paloh Bridge in Mukah, Sarawak, under the state's coastal road construction scheme.

HSL told Bursa Malaysia today the builder had yesterday (April 16) received the project's letter of acceptance from the Sarawak government.

"This project falls under Package 3, which is part of the RM11 billion allocated for the upgrading works for the coastal road, second trunk road and water supply works in Sarawak. The scope of works for HSL is the construction of a 1.9km long reinforced concrete structure balanced cantilever bridge which includes substantial marine piling works using 1500mm diameter steel pipe pile. The other scope of works includes earthworks, geotechnical, drainage, pavement works and the associated mechanical and electrical works.

"The contract period is 48 months and physical construction work is expected to commence in May 2019. The contract is expected to contribute positively to the earnings and net assets of HSL group as the project progresses during the contract period. However, the transaction will not have any effect on the share capital and substantial shareholdings of HSL," the group said.
