KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho's (Jho Low) name was not documented in the Cabinet minutes dated Sept 8, 2010 or in the supporting 14 Cabinet papers that same week, where it was revealed that the "donation" from Prince Saud Abdulaziz Al-Saud to 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) charity arm Yayasan 1MDB was to be made but should remain confidential.
This was revealed by former deputy chief secretary to the Cabinet Tan Sri Mazidah Abdul Majid, the 11th prosecution witness in former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak's 1MDB-Tanore trial.
Mazidah was asked this by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Ahmad Akram Gharib where Jho Low's name was brought up in that Cabinet meeting.
“I do not actually remember but in looking at the minutes, yes, the name was not mentioned. If it is not there in the minutes, the name was not mentioned,” she said.
When Akram asked the witness to look at the 14 documents, which were tabled in the Cabinet meeting, on whether the Penang born businessman's name was mentioned, Mazidah took 10 minutes to scroll the documents and replied "no".
Najib faces four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering in relation to 1MDB funds to the amount of more than RM2.28 billion.
