KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) has appointed its founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s daughter Chryseis Tan Sheik Ling, and the daughter of Sultan of Johor, Her Highness Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, as its non-independent and non-executive director effective July 1.

In a statement on Friday (July 1), the diversified group said to date, there are nine female directors out of 14 board members, representing 64% of female representation in the group’s boardroom. 

Chryseis is a director and the chairman of Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd (NASB), a subsidiary of Berjaya Assets Bhd (BAssets) and presently, she is also an executive director of Berjaya Land Bhd and BAssets and a non-executive director of Berjaya Food Bhd. 

“She is also the head of marketing for Four Seasons Hotel and Hotel Residences Kyoto, Japan, a hotel and residences development project undertaken by Berjaya Kyoto Development (S) Pte Ltd, a subsidiary company of BCorp.

“Chryseis Tan is also a director in several other private limited companies in the Berjaya Corp group of companies, namely RC Residence Sdn Bhd, Bukit Tinggi Tours Sdn Bhd and BTR Leisure Sdn Bhd,” it said.

Meanwhile, Her Highness Tunku Tun Aminah is the chairperson of REDtone Digital Bhd, BAssets and Berjaya Waterfront Sdn Bhd.

“Tunku Aminah is also the current president of the Johor Darul Tazim Football Club (also known as JDT), a football club based in Johor Baru,” the group shared. 

Separately, BCorp announced the departure of two of its independent directors, namely Datin Seri Sunita Mei-Lin Rajakumar and Datuk Hisham Othman.

Hisham has been appointed as the CEO and executive director of BAssets effective July 1. 

“Hisham has extensive top management experience in various spheres of business such as strategy, investments, operations management, financial management, risk management, project management, quality, marketing & sales, business development, governance, compliance, and stakeholder management. 

“Having been a CEO in various industries for many years, he has valuable in-depth experience in the fields of property development, construction, highways, concessions, infrastructure, automotive and transportation. 

“He is familiar with the project management, design, construction, execution, completion and maintenance of projects,” BCorp said.  

Sunita, on the other hand, left the group effective July 1 and she has been appointed as an independent director in Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd effective Friday. 

Shares in BCorp closed unchanged at 24 sen on Friday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.38 billion. Meanwhile, Berjaya Land's share price dropped one sen to 20 sen, valuing the group at RM1 billion.
