KUALA LUMPUR (April 21): The judiciary has lodged a police report against ex-Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad for alleging a conspiracy between the Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and political leaders to speed up the trial and sentencing of former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In a statement on Thursday (April 21), the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia referred to the accusation made by Shahrir Samad on Facebook on April 20, which had insinuated that there was a conspiracy, secret pact or illegal pact between political leaders and the Chief Justice.

The chief registrar said the accusation was unfounded as the Chief Justice had never reached out to nor received any communication from political leaders in relation to the ongoing court cases involving Najib and Zahid.

“Pending court cases shall proceed and continue in accordance with the law without any intervention by the Chief Justice or any other person,” the statement read.

The chief registrar stressed that parties responsible for making and spreading the accusations intend to bring the judiciary into disrepute and cause the loss of public trust in the judiciary.

“In addition, these accusations are intended to subvert the administration of justice in terms of the ongoing trials and cases involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” the statement added.
