KUALA LUMPUR (July 2): Malaysia reported 6,982 new Covid-19 cases, bringing total cases in the country to 765,949.

Selangor continued to report the highest number of new daily infections at 2,907, followed by Kuala Lumpur (637), Negeri Sembilan (606) and Johor (517), said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Other States with three-digit new cases are Sarawak (440), Penang (351), Pahang (329), Kedah (257), Sabah (230), Melaka (202), Perak (182), Labuan (131) and Kelantan (129). 

Meanwhile, 73 new Covid-19 deaths were reported today, taking the country’s total fatalities to 5,327. 

Dr Noor Hisham said 29 deaths were reported in Selangor, 13 in Negeri Sembilan, five each in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, four each in Johor, Pahang and Sarawak, three in Labuan, two each in Kelantan and Penang and one each in Melaka and Kedah.

Daily recoveries came in slightly lower than the number of new infections at 6,278.

The total recoveries so far stood at 694,538, representing a recovery rate of 90.7%. 

Active cases are recorded at 66,084. A total of 905 cases are being treated in the intensive care units, of whom 443 patients are on ventilators.

The Ministry of Health reported 17 new Covid-19 clusters today, of which nine are from the workplace and five from the community, with the remaining comprising high-risk clusters.

To date, the Ministry has identified 2,882 clusters of which 2,005 have been declared ended. That leaves 877 active clusters.
