(August 5): Two mineral water bottles produced in Malaysia have washed up on the beach of La Reunion island, fuelling speculation that debris found last week could be related to lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Britain's Daily Mail published pictures of three mineral water bottles, two of them Malaysian brands Life and Cactus.

The discovery was made by lawyer Creissen Philippe, an island local, who told the Mail that of late, he had stumbled upon debris on the beach which did not belong to the island.

Since the discovery of a piece of debris believed to be part of a Boeing 777 wing, there have been many more debris washed up on this remote island off Madagascar, including old kettles, scrap metal, torn suitcase, large pieces of plastic with logos printed on them and shoes.

Missing flight MH370 is a Boeing 777, and was carrying 239 people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, when it disappeared on March 8 last year.

A major search effort has so far failed to spot any debris of the aircraft, but the discovery of the debris on La Reunion offered a glimmer of hope for a closure to the 17-month mystery.

The debris, a wing surface known as a flaperon, is being examined by aviation experts in Toulouse, France.

Malaysian and French officials are expected to announce their findings this week. – The Malaysian Insider
