KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): Malaysia's daily Covid-19 vaccination rate rose to 243,971 yesterday (Sept 14) from 227,147 the day before.

Of the total doses of vaccines given out yesterday, 71,658 went to first-dose recipients, while the remaining 172,313 went to second-dose recipients, according to the latest updates on Twitter today by the country's Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

In total, the number of vaccine doses delivered across the nation stood at 39.23 million.

A total of 21.65 million people or 66.3% of the nation's population had received at least the first dose, including 17.65 million or 54.1% who were fully inoculated.

About 7.05 million individuals or 83.7% of the total population of the Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday.

Of these, 6.41 million people or 76.1% of the Klang Valley's population were fully inoculated with two doses.

Among the states and federal territories, Perak reported the highest number of daily shots for the first dose yesterday at 16,801, followed by Johor (12,210) and Sabah (6,768).

Johor led with the highest number of daily second doses with 34,163 administered, followed by Sabah (19,715) and Kuala Lumpur (19,586).

Malaysia reported fewer new Covid-19 cases at 15,669 yesterday compared with the 16,073 seen the day before. These brought the country's total Covid-19 cases to 2.01 million.

Meanwhile, 463 new deaths were reported, raising the cumulative fatalities linked to Covid-19 cases to 21,587.
