KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 17): Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd is still studying the impact of goods and services tax (GST) to its car price, said its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roland Folger.

“At this moment, we are internally studying the impact of GST to our prices. I am not in the position to speculate, and further details on its effect will be furnished soon,” he told reporters after launching the all-new C-class today.

To recap, Malaysian Automotive Institute CEO Madani Sahari said that car prices are expected to drop between 1% and 3%, due to the implementation of the GST in April next year.

The proposed GST rate of 6% will replace the current Sales and Services Tax (SST) for motor vehicles of 10%. However, it is envisaged that the anticipated car price drop will also depend on the value determined by the original equipment engineers, said Madani recently.
