KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh (PH-Ipoh Timur) is expecting the motion to appoint a new chairman for the bipartisan parliamentary committee to be moved on April 11 (Thursday), the final day of this Parliament sitting.

Speaking at a press conference here at Parliament, Wong said this is however subject to the Speaker's discretionary power to prioritise the motion.

"[It] all depends on [the] Speaker to decide, whether to give priority to this, looking at the appointment of [a] new chairman now being at item number nine, [it] came after all the government's motions, therefore it is expected to be tabled on April 11," he said.

The necessity to appoint a new PAC chairman came after the previous chair Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PH-Beluran) jumped ship to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia from Umno, and Pakatan Harapan's election manifesto promised to reserve the PAC chairmanship for an opposition MP.

Subsequent to this, Barisan Nasional has nominated Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) as the candidate to replace Ronald Kiandee.

Earlier today, the Dewan Rakyat order paper showed that the Prime Minister is slated to move a motion in Dewan Rakyat to appoint Noraini as the new PAC chairman for the 14th Parliament.

Regarding the vacancy that resulted in Nurul Izzah Anwar's (PH-Permatang Pauh) resignation from PAC, Wong today said it is up to the Parliament Committee of Selection to decide.
