KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 26): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) did not receive a formal request from Sime Darby Bhd to extend the MRT line 1 to connect into Sime Darby's "City of Elmina" development, according to MRT Corp CEO Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid.

News reports, quoting sources, indicated that Sime Darby was planning to submit a request for a line extension from Sungai Buloh to "City of Elmina". The development is located along the Guthrie Corridor Expressway

Azhar said : “We have not received anything formally. No formal letter and no formal request."

“We are also reading it from the newspaper. Maybe they are talking to the wrong CEO,” Azhar told a press briefing today on the status of the MRT project

The 51-km MRT line 1 in Selangor will connect 31 stations from Sungai Buloh to Kajang.

The finalised name of each station has been approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Azhar said construction progress of MRT line 1 had achieved "good progress" with completion rate at 55.21% as at October 31 this year.

He said there were seven tenders left to be awarded for MRT line 1. The tenders are worth less than RM250 million.

On MRT line 2, Wira Azhar said the proposed alignment for the project that connects Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya via Serdang, was expected to be finalised in August next year.
