KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Sugar producer MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd saw its net profit soar 189% to RM74.96 million in the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2014 (4QFY14), from RM25.94 million a year earlier, on higher sales and lower raw sugar cost.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, MSM (fundamental:2.5; valuation: 1.20), a unit under Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd, said revenue increased to RM628.07 million, from RM537.33 million.

MSM said despite volatile commodity prices, it expected to sustain its satisfactory performance.

For the full year, MSM recorded an increase in net profit at RM257.01 million, from RM254.68 million a year earlier. Revenue rose to RM2.28 billion, from RM2.20 billion.

According to Felda Global's (fundamental:2.1; valuation: 2.4) website, MSM manufacturers 57% of Malaysia's refined sugar supply.

MSM undertakes its sugar business via Malayan Sugar Manufacturing Co Ltd in Seberang Prai, Penang; and Kilang Gula Felda Perlis Sdn Bhd in Chuping, Perlis.

At 2:54pm, MSM shares rose three sen or 0.6% to RM4.98, with 17,500 units done.
