KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 5): It might seem hard to believe at first but those in Berjaya Corporation Bhd's inner circle know that it was a mutual love of football that brought Jalil Rasheed to the attention of its founder and chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun.

Having made history as the first non-family member appointed to lead the company which generates approximately US$5 billion in revenue with over 8,000 employees globally, Jalil comes well-prepared for the role, with close to 20 years of experience and senior roles in Europe and Asia. Market sentiment too was positive when the news of his appointment broke, saluting him with a salvo in the form of a share price surge.

Gracing the cover of Options this week, the unlikely duo talk about their interests and passions — some shared, some not — that range from vegetarianism to eradicating homelessness, football (naturally) and even motorcycles.

Also complimentary with this issue is our Winter 2021 issue of Haven, The Edge’s quarterly home and design magazine. Given that the season of festivities has just begun in Malaysia, it is an opportune time to present some bijou but design-conscious getaways. From Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina’s former residence-turned-luxury villa for rent to fashion designer Radzuan Radziwill’s Kunang-Kunang Heritage Villas in Langkawi, our curated list will enable you to recharge and rejuvenate just in time to greet 2022.

Naturally, decorating ideas for both Christmas and the Lunar New Year are also presented, as well as beautiful and inspiring homes and workplaces around the country.

Read all these stories in the latest issue of Options, which accompanies the Dec 6 edition of The Edge Malaysia weekly.
