KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 7): Astral Supreme Bhd has appointed Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed as its non-executive chairman, replacing Edlin Ghazaly, 49, who has resigned, citing "other work commitment".

Nur Jazlan, 48, is also active in politics. He is the chief of UMNO Pulai, Johor and chairman of Barisan Nasional for the division since 2003.

He was an exco member of UMNO Youth from 1996 to 2004. He is a third-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Pulai and was re-elected as a MP in the recent general election held on May 5, 2013.

He is also chairman of Public Accounts Committee and is on the board of directors of TSH Resources Bhd, Ekowood International Bhd and Malayan Land Bhd.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Astral Supreme also announced the resignation of its executive director Cherng Chin Guan, 50, and its non-executive director Yap Chi Keong, 62, both citing "other work commitment".

Astral Supreme's latest management movement follows a judgement obtained in late October against its former managing director Ong Tai Chin @ Wong Tai Chin, from whom it had claimed RM15.51 million with interest rate of 5% per year, along with costs of RM1,850 and general damages.

The group had on Aug 12, 2014, sued Ong for alleged breach of statutory duty, which it claimed had led the group to a loss of RM15.51 million for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2013 (FY13), following a qualification remark by its auditor Messrs. Morison Anuarul Azizan Chew.

Astral Supreme had then appointed two special investigators, PKF Advisory Sdn Bhd and CH International Advisory Sdn Bhd, to review its current and past financial statements.

Its share price closed up one sen or 6.9% to 15.5 sen today, with 1.8 million shares traded, giving it a market capitalisation of RM45.05 million.
