KUALA LUMPUR (Mar 26): Opposition lawmakers today ticked off the Finance Ministry over contradictory statements made on tycoon T. Ananda Krishnan who purportedly helped settle the RM2 billion debts of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

"There are contradictory statements from the Finance Ministry on Ananda Krishnan's involvement in settling the RM2 billion debt.

"We want to know who wrote the written answers to parliament. Was it Ahmad Maslan or Husni?" Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin told reporters today.

Sim explained that the written answers from the Finance Ministry could have been prepared by either one of the ministers.

In the last parliament sitting in November last year, the Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan denied that he misled the Dewan Rakyat over a letter of support to 1MDB.

Last night, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah told parliament in his winding speech that Tanjong Energy Holdings had roped in private investors to come up with the money to help 1MDB pay off its RM2 billion debt acknowledging that Tanjong is a firm owned by the tycoon.

However, Sim pointed out in an earlier written reply to parliament to MP Chua Tian Chang's question on March 11, the Finance Minister said that Datuk Seri Najib Razak claimed there is no truth to reports about the loan received by 1MDB from billionaire Ananda Krishnan.
