KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the Malaysian government had the responsibility to uphold transparency on 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) financials and transactions to faciliate investigations on the company.

Nur Jazlan said as 1MDB was fully owned by the finance ministry, it was the responsibility of the ministry to direct 1MDB to provide the relevant documents to the Auditor-General (AG).

"They (1MDB) have submitted documentation but not fully ... the AG has been hindered in their investigations," Nur Jazlan told reporters here today.

AG Tan Sri Ambrin Buang had earlier handed over the highly-publicised interim report on 1MDB to the PAC.

According to Nur Jazlan, Ambrin told the PAC that certain documents like 1MDB's bank statements, agreements and investment-related documentation had yet to be given to the AG

Nur Jazlan said Ambrin told the PAC that 1MDB had not been forthcoming with the important documents.

According to Nur Jazlan, the AG's final report was expected to be handed over to the PAC at the soonest date this year. The final report will also be tabled to Parliament and made public, according to him.

But for now, he said the interim report would not be made public. But the PAC would use findings from the report to facilitate investigations on 1MDB.
