KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) said on Tuesday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with energy technology company Baker Hughes to collaborate on enhancing operational excellence and technological developments supporting energy transition, education and capability building.

In a statement, Petronas said the MoU outlines a framework in which both companies will combine their expertise to optimise sustainable delivery of energy offerings while leveraging on technology and digitalisation, in line with Petronas' sustainability agenda.

The signing marks the continuation of synergy between the companies following an MoU signed in 2018, which brought notable improvements in robotics' deployment, process safety, and plant digitalisation.

"At Petronas, we are committed to taking a holistic approach in sustainability, and leveraging on innovation to pursue our sustainability agenda which encompasses four lenses — Continued Value Creation, Safeguard the Environment, Positive Social Impact and Responsible Governance," said Petronas president and group chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz.

He said the MoU maps out a range of initiatives that support these lenses with a view to ultimately enable delivering sustainable energy offerings, while leveraging on technology and digitalisation.

He also believes that creating a sustainable future will require collaboration, partnership and commitment from all.

"We are delighted to continue strengthening our partnership with a reputable technology partner like Baker Hughes as we continue on this energy transition journey," he added.

According to Petronas, the collaboration will specifically advance Petronas' ventures in delivering low-carbon energy options, namely in the fields of hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), digital solutions, as well as sustainability and emissions management.
