KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 30): The Ministry of Finance (MoF) said a total of 4.98 million i-Citra applications, equivalent to RM20.58 billion, had been approved as at Aug 31, 2021.

In a written Parliamentary response to a question from Baling Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that RM4.71 billion or 23% of the approved applications had been disbursed to Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members.

“The remaining amount will be credited to members based on the payment schedule set for i-Citra payments, with the final payment in February 2022,” he added.

The EPF’s i-Citra initiative allows members below 55 years of age to withdraw up to RM5,000 of savings, depending on the balances in their EPF Account 1 and Account 2, which would be paid out over five months, up to RM1,000 a month.

The facility aims to assist members affected by the Covid-19 pandemic to provide them some financial relief.

Applications are opened from July 12 to Sept 30, with the first payment being credited starting in August.
