KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Scomi Group Bhd rose as much as 6.9% after the company said it had last Friday received approval from Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd to issue new shares to its directors, major shareholders or related parties without having to obtain approval from shareholders.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Scomi Group said the approval for the special exemption was related to its earlier proposal to consolidate its business via a three-way merger with its two subsidiaries, Scomi Engineering Bhd and Scomi Energy Services Bhd.

At 11.21am, Scomi Group was up half a sen sen or 3.45% to 15 sen, with 3.13 million shares traded for a market capitalisation of RM285.46 million.

Meanwhile, Scomi Energy was up one sen or 8.7% to 12.5 sen, with 1.94 million shares exchanging hands. This brings its market capitalisation to RM292.7 million.

Scomi Engineering was untraded today. The stock closed at 26 sen last Friday, with a market capitalisation of RM87.2 million.
