PETALING JAYA (Jan 10): A total of 10 participants have been shortlisted for the next phase of the Concept Home 2030 Competition, a design competition organised by Sime Darby Property Bhd and Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM).

According to a statement on Monday (Jan 10), the shortlisted participants are Area Architects Sdn Bhd, Arkitek Oma Sdn Bhd & Shah Architect (AOMASA), Arkitek Seni Kenyalang Sdn Bhd, B.F.K/Chaw Boon Kit, Cheong Gin Yong Architect, Cipta Teguh Architects Sdn Bhd, Min Wee Architect, Qhawarizmi Architect, Re DESIGN/Boon Zi Yang and Veritas Architects Sdn Bhd. Winners of the competition will be announced during a live event on Jan 22.

The Concept Home 2030 Competition had attracted 171 participants during its first phase — the highest number of registrants in the history of PAM’s competitions. The contest challenged the participants to overhaul the run-of-the-mill terraced home design.

Sime Darby Property Group Managing Director Datuk Azmir Merican said the competition showcased the participants’ imaginative ideas and problem-solving skills, adding that the pandemic shifted views on how homes should be designed in the future.

“When we embarked on this competition, we called upon professional architects to participate in revolutionising the way forward for future living, and judging by the entries, I trust that we can influence the value chain and benefit the industry through collaborations and engagements.

“We envision future homes to be designed with technology at its core and featuring versatile space that will be built with modern methods of construction and sustainable materials, as well as harmonised with sustainable living features in modern and circular townships,” he said.

The top 10 finalists participated in a recent workshop with industry experts. It was aimed to bridge the gap between architecture and design, as well as familiarise the finalists with the four pillars of the Concept Home 2030 competition — sustainable solutions; modern methods of construction; tech-infused: a home brain; as well as modular expandable and customisable.

PAM President Datuk Ezumi Harzani Ismail said: “We are happy to receive the submissions which challenged conventional design approaches and pushed various ideation aspects with innovative and progressive ideas.

“We anticipate the finalists to push the boundaries with new inspirational ideas of creative applications of smart technologies, modern materials and construction methods, to create conducive sustainable future living environments in the terraced home and community,” he added.

For the second phase of the competition, the finalists will have to prepare their presentation to best showcase the concept, after the workshop with industry experts, for the final submission.

The competition also features a “People’s Choice Award”, which depends on public voting. The public can vote for their favourite submission(s) at concepthome2030.simedarbyproperty.com.
