KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom will be the fifth witness to testify in former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s defence at the SRC International Sdn Bhd trial here today.

Jamil Khir will take the witness stand to corroborate Najib’s defence against the alleged misappropriation of government funds that resulted in RM42 million ending up in Najib's personal account.

Yesterday, former Malaysian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Professor Datuk Syed Omar Alsagoff, in response to questions from prosecutor Datuk V Sithambaram, told the court that he was informed by Najib and not by the Saudi Arabia palace that the purpose of the Saudi Arabia donation to Najib was for Malaysia's general election.

According to Syed Omar, Najib said this after the former premier had a private meeting with the Saudi king.

During cross-examination, the prosecution also asked Syed Omar about the details of the purported donation received from the king, although Syed Omar said he did not have the information.

Sithambaram also asked Syed Omar if the Saudi royal family expects the receiver of the donation to return the unused portion of the donation. Syed Omar said he has never heard of such cases.
