KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): Shares in technology and semiconductor-related counters continued to attract investors’ interest in Bursa Malaysia's morning trading session today, underpinned by stronger industry sales.

As at 10.32am, the Bursa Malaysia Technology Index had risen 0.98 point or 1.15% to 86.02 points.

Among the top gainers on Bursa were Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI), Genetec Technology Bhd, UWC Bhd, KESM Industries Bhd and ViTrox Corp Bhd.

Four counters reached a new peak this morning. They were MPI, Genetec, UWC and ViTrox.

Leading the pack, MPI rose 3.39% or RM1.22 to a fresh peak of RM37.16, bringing its market capitalisation up to RM7.8 billion, making it the top gainer across Bursa. It had seen some 192,800 shares traded.

Year to date (YTD), MPI had gained 43.14% from when it was trading at RM25.96 apiece.

Genetec — in the sixth place — climbed 12.33% or 36 sen to a fresh high of RM3.28, with a market value of RM144.2 million. YTD, it had gained 89.6% from RM1.73.

UWC Bhd inched up 1.69% or 22 sen to a new high of RM13.24, translating into a market capitalisation of RM7.28 billion. From just RM9.80, it had gained 35.1% YTD.

KESM shares were 1.31% or 22 sen higher at RM17, valuing the group at RM731.25 million.

Meanwhile, ViTrox rose 1.15% or 20 sen to a new peak of RM17.60. This brought its market value up to RM8.31 billion. It had gained 19.73% from when it was trading at RM14.70.
