KUALA LUMPUR (May 1): On our cover this week is multiple record-breaking alpinist and activist Nirmal Purja, who is also Montblanc's most recently appointed Mark Maker. In this exclusive interview held at the Watches and Wonders fair in Geneva earlier this April, the British-Nepali Purja talks about his journey atop the mountains, his motivations and why climbing makes him so happy.

After all, there must be a reason for him to have achieved what he has. He ascended all 14 eight-thousanders (mountain peaks above 8,000m) in a record time of six months and six days with the aid of bottled oxygen. He was also the first to reach the summits of Mount Everest, Lhotse and Makalu within 48 hours. Last year, along with a team of nine other Nepalese mountaineers, Purja completed the first-ever winter ascent of the treacherous K2. We also get a look at the watch that Montblanc is equipping him with as he climbs Everest for the sixth time this month, the 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen LE290.

While on the topic of extreme sports, contributor Bob Holmes takes a look at the city of Miami, Florida as it gets ready to welcome the Formula One Grand Prix from May 6 to 8. Spoiler alert: it’s a great move and the races are set to be incredibly exciting!

Hop from Florida to New York for our coverage of the most substantial Star Wars exhibitions to date, and then onwards to Venice for a look at how the war in Ukraine has seeped into the contents of the ultra-glamorous art fair.
