PUTRAJAYA (Jan 29): Come Tuesday (Feb 2), traffic offenders in Shah Alam or Selangor can plead guilty from in front of their computer without physically coming to the Magistrate's Court with the implementation of the e-PG (electronic pleading guilty) application.

The pilot project will begin from Feb 2 until Feb 5 for cases registered with Shah Alam Magistrate's Court 3.

In a statement today, the Federal Court registrar's office said it hopes to have the system expanded throughout Peninsular Malaysia by April 1, and in Sabah and Sarawak by June this year.

"The Covid-19 pandemic that struck the country and the world requires society to practice social distancing and avoid congested places. The pilot e-PG system would be able to reduce those issued with summonses from physically coming to the court, and this would save time, ringgit and further ensure their safety and health.

"The judiciary hopes this digital technology initiative would further enhance the administration of justice and provide access to justice to all parties," it said in the statement.

However, the e-PG does not apply to summons for road speeding offences, which would still require offenders coming physically come to the court.

For the public to understand how the system works, they can check the flow chart at https://ecourt.kehakiman.gov.my from Feb 2.

The court has appended a list of 43 traffic offences that the public or traffic offenders can utilise the e-PG system.

They include traffic licence expiry, offences related to commercial and private licences, the driving licence, licence plate of vehicles, and violating the pedestrian walk.
