KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 19): Mobile messaging, voice and video service provider Viber has launched Public Chats today, a new feature that allows users to discover, share and interact with conversations, communities and content on mobile.

In a statement today, Viber said Public Chats were live discussions between celebrities and personalities that Viber users can follow.

It said they offered a new kind of social experience – tapping into live conversations as they happen.

It said anyone on Viber could follow as many of these chats as they liked on their mobile device.

It added that conversations were multi-media and include text, photos, audio, video, stickers, web links and more, adding that users could invite friends to follow the Public Chats that interest them and can share content.

Viber said Malaysia Public Chats featured local personalities and brands such as recording artist, composer and producer Amanda Imani, technology online publication Amanz.my, environmental conservation organisation WWF-Malaysia, Singer-Songwriter Imran-Ajmain as well as food and fashion bloggers.

It said the most popular chats will be featured on the home screen of the Public Chats section of Viber. Users can easily search to find out who is chatting, or they can access a chat directly through its customized URL.

Viber choef executive officer Talmon Marco said the release of Public Chats on Viber allowed people to interact in a new way, listening in on live discussions and staying up-to-date with exclusive content from the people and subjects that matter to them most

“We are launching this concept with a great line-up of celebrities and personalities all over the world.

“They are opening up their conversations on Viber, and we’re sure our users will love the ‘fly-on-the-wall’ experience this delivers,” said Marco.
