KUALA LUMPUR (May 26): Yes 5G — one of two mobile networks which has signed up for Digital Nasional Bhd’s (DNB) 5G infrastructure — has announced new 5G-ready mobile network plans, which offer average data charges of 30 sen per GB under its “5G for All” campaign.

In a Thursday (May 26) statement, Yes 5G’s mobile network operator (MNO), YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, said it opened pre-registration for the plans, comprising standalone mobile plans, as well as data plans with free 5G phones.

YTL Communications claims that these 4G/5G mobile plans dubbed “Infinite” and “Infinite+” are 300% cheaper than the current 4G market standard. In its statement, the company noted that for consumers who do not currently have a 5G-compatible smartphone, the Yes Infinite+ 36-month contract allows customers to get a free 5G Smartphone.

“With ‘Infinite’ high speed data at all times, regardless of 4G or 5G, customers can enjoy 20x faster speeds at 300% cheaper prices,” said Datuk Yeoh Seok Hong, managing director of YTL Communications.

“There is no longer any need to worry about having to top up or buy add-ons. The price for each plan is effectively a price cap; the more you consume, the cheaper it gets.

“We are not just here to talk by proclaiming the title of being First to 5G. We’re here to walk the talk by striving to enable Yes 5G for All,” he added in the statement.

Meanwhile, DNB chief executive officer Ralph Marshall applauded Yes for being the first to offer 5G in the Malaysian market.

“DNB is greatly encouraged by the response from YTL Communications’ Yes throughout our journey to deploy 5G nationwide,” Marshall said.

“With the launch of this campaign, Yes is lowering barriers to entry, enabling affordable 5G access to all Malaysians. We look forward to a continuing collaboration to accelerate the adoption of 5G in Malaysia.”

YTL Communications, a subsidiary of YTL Power International Bhd, is one of two entities that have signed up with DNB to utilise the latter’s 5G infrastructure, the other being Telekom Malaysia Bhd.

Shares of YTL Power settled unchanged at 77 sen on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM6.28 billion.
