KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11): The High Court has postponed the hearing of former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's graft and money laundering trial scheduled for the whole of next week due to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

This was informed by High Court senior assistant registrar Farah Azura Mohd Saad to parties.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran when contacted confirmed the adjournment.

"The hearing scheduled on Nov 16 to 19 is vacated. The next scheduled date is from Nov 30 to Dec 3," she said.

The CMCO has been announced in all states in Malaysia except Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu until Dec 6 as announced by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob due to rising Covid-19 cases.

Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who is presiding over the trial, has also fixed Jan 18 to 21, Feb 22 to 25 and March 8 to 11 and March 22 to 25, 2021 as other trial dates.

Raja Rozela who is heading the prosecution team in the trial has said there are seven witnesses, mainly investigating officers, left to testify for the prosecution's case.

"The 89th prosecution witness, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officer Fairul Rafiq Hamiruddin, was the last one who testified and was scheduled to be cross-examined by the defence," she said.

Ahmad Zahid, 67, who is also Umno president, is facing 47 charges with 12 of them involving criminal breach of trust, eight for corruption and 27 for money laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit in funds belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.
