The locally-assembled 2.0L variant makes the Mitsubishi Outlander more appealing than ever

The new Outlander is contract assembled by Tan Chong Motors Assemblies (TCMA) in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, and comes with the same features and attributes that have made 2.4L counterpart a hit with drivers across the globe. Best of all, because it is locally assembled, the 2.0L variant is affordable for all Malaysians.

Proven track record

The new variant is powered by a tried and tested 2-litre DOHC MIVEC engine that produces a maximum output of 145PS along with 196Nm of torque. Paired with an INVECS-III CVT transmission, the powerplant delivers exceptional power as well as efficiency with no compromise on driveability and on-road enjoyment.

The new Outlander enjoys the same credentials Mitsubishi gained from racing in and winning the gruelling Dakar Rally. The variant benefits greatly from Mitsubishi’s excellent track record of producing rugged and performance-driven 4WD vehicles.

Unlike on-demand 4WD systems found in rival SUVs, the new Outlander is equipped with an intelligent 4WD system. Via the Multi-Select 4WD, drivers can access three selectable modes — 4WD Eco, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock — to suit various road conditions and terrains. By improving traction on slippery surfaces and stability, 4WD plays a key role in active safety, which is especially valuable in SUVs with tall bodies and a high centre of gravity.

Bold design

Unmistakably sharp and rugged, the new Outlander has a bold presence, thanks to Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield face design. Equipped with LED daytime running lights and striking 18-inch alloy wheels, the SUV is head turning and looks equally stylish, on city commutes and rough terrains. MMM offers the Outlander in three distinctive colours — Red Metallic, Solar White and Ruby Black, which is a new colour and available exclusively for the Malaysian market.

Spacious and modern Interior

An SUV prides itself on its space and the new Outlander delivers that in space with a cabin that seats seven and a best-in-class cargo volume of 1,608 litres with the second and third-row seats folded. The list of equipment is impressive — with automatic headlamps as well as keyless entry with a push start button as standard offerings. In terms of entertainment, the model comes with a 7-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with Air Gesture Control and Apple CarPlay functionality for seamless integration for Apple Smart Devices. Also, the vehicle comes with a digital video recorder and security/solar film for all windows.
