KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): Nurul Izzah Anwar has returned as a member in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) after an upcoming motion to appoint an opposition MP as the committee chairman was revealed today.

The PKR MP for Permatang Pauh reportedly vacated the committee late last month amid disagreements on whether Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee should retain his chairmanship there after joining Pakatan Harapan last month.

"I agreed to rejoin PAC after discussions with Chief Whip [Datuk Johari Abdul] and upon approval by the Speaker [Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof]," Nurul Izzah told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat today.

She attended the PAC meeting today on the request of the PAC secretariat, she added.

Earlier today, a Dewan Rakyat order paper revealed that the Prime Minister is slated to move a motion in Dewan Rakyat to appoint Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong), a candidate by the opposition, as the new PAC chairman for the 14th Parliament.

Later, PAC deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh (PH-Ipoh Timur) said he expects the motion to be moved on April 11, which is the final day of this Parliament sitting.

Nurul Izzah was not the only person to leave PAC over the chairmanship row.

On March 26, three opposition MPs namely Noraini, Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah (BN-Jasin) and PAS secretary general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Bharu) also said they quit the committee.

However, that same day, Wong said the PAC did not receive the resignation letters from the three individuals.

Noraini declined to comment when approached today on the matter.
