KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 1): AirAsia Group Bhd group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes suggested in jest a name change for football club Queens Park Rangers (QPR) after QPR, where Fernandes is a co-owner, beat Birmingham City Football Club in a London, UK Tuesday (Sept 28) evening match during which Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was also present.

It was reported that the football match where QPR beat Birmingham City by 2-0 was held at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium in London.

In an Instagram post, Fernandes said: “Great to see His Royal Highness come to support QPR against Birmingham."

"Brought us the right result with a 2-0 win. Maybe we need to change the name to Kings Park Rangers if His Majesty comes more often and and we win all the time,” Fernandes said.

News reports, quoting Istana Negara’s Facebook post, said Al-Sultan Abdullah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah arrived in London for a 10-day special visit to the UK on Sept 17, 2021.

"Istana Negara, in a statement on its official Facebook account today (Sept 18), said the special aircraft carrying their Majesties touched down at the Luton Airport at 8pm Friday (Sept 17) (3am Saturday in Malaysia),” Bernama reported.
